The Annual Town Meeting organised by Earley Town Council, was held on Tuesday 29th April 2025 at Maiden Place Community Centre.
The meeting welcomed Earley residents and provided an opportunity for them to come and find out about the work and projects going on in their community. There were presentations from several local organisations about the work they do in and around Earley.
The Town Mayor also gave an update on Town Council work, projects and events over the past year.
This very informative and enjoyable evening included presentations from: –
Pat Holloway of Maiden Erlegh Rotary Club – they a fundraising organisation raising money to help young people, international causes, local community groups and community food services. Raising over £30,000 and delivering over 7,000 meals. This group’s activities are very varied and Pat said new volunteers were always welcome to join.
Lesley Hoey of AGE UK Berkshire – this is an independent charity that provides information, support and other services, such as Home to Hospital and a Handyperson service to those over 50 years old. With offices in Broad Street Mall, services from Age UK Berkshire can be accessed by email, telephone or in person.
Jules Shaw of University of Reading – Jules spoke of their local community projects with the Town Council and others, including the development Swallow Meadows to improve the accessibility for local residents.
Andrew Bradley of Earley Repair Café – this was launched at Centrepoint Community Centre in October 2024 and has proved very popular with volunteers and the public. The Repair Café is held every 2nd Sunday of the month and will repair a range of items including clothes, electricals, tools, bikes, furniture and anything else that may come through its door.
John Gale representing ECMWF, the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts – ECMWF work on climate change models, produce weather forecasts and carry out scientific and technical research to improve weather forecasting. The ECMWF Headquarters will be moving from Shinfield Park to the University of Reading’s Whiteknights campus, with the proposed move being completed by Spring 2027. This is an internationally important project.
