Earley Town Council Participating in ‘No Mow May’

Earley Town Council will be participating in Plantlife’s ‘No Mow May’ campaign by setting aside areas at all Town Council sites to be left unmowed during the month of May. This will encourage the growth of wildflowers which should lead to an estimated tenfold boost to nectar production – a huge benefit to bees, butterflies and other pollinators.

May is the perfect time for this campaign as the soils are warm enough for grasses to really start shooting up. Earley Town Council is encouraging all residents to join us in leaving the mower in the shed for the month of May on at least a strip of your garden and watch your lawn spring to life with flowers, bees and other pollinators.

To help publicise this event, Earley Town Council will be putting up a ‘Scaremow’ in the front garden of the Council Offices in Radstock Lane. If you’d like to make your own, Plantlife have a helpful how-to guide on their website – How to make a scaremow.

And remember – every flower counts!
