Wokingham Borough Council has appointed a contractor to carry out a much-needed refurbishment of the Earley Station Footbridge. Whilst the works are carried out, the footbridge will be closed to the public.
During the closure, pedestrians will be diverted via Station Road, Wokingham Road, Henley Wood Road, Henley Wood Subway, Darlington Avenue, and Nightingale Road. The Earley Station car park will also be closed for use as a site compound, users will be encouraged to utilise the Winnersh Park & Ride car park as an alternative. Wokingham Borough Council has said that it recognises that these temporary restrictions will cause some inconvenience; however, they are necessary to deliver essential improvements that will enhance the long-term safety, reliability, and lifespan of the footbridge.
Work on the footbridge is scheduled to start in mid-October 2026 until April 2027.
