Earley Town Council is aware of the social media comments regarding the surface of the BMX track at Paddick Drive and would like to reassure residents that the BMX track is inspected annually by a RoSPA accredited inspection company as well as routine checks conducted by our experienced in-house staff.
Although there is currently no specific national standard for BMX tracks, recommendations received from our annual inspectors are made based on the closest guidance available (UCI-BMX Track Guide/BS EN 14974 RPII) which have been actioned in accordance with our latest inspection report in March 2025.
When the track was built, the foundations for the BMX track were constructed using sub-optimal materials which is often found emerging through the surface as well as contributing to the overall condition of the surface.
During their routine inspections, staff will look for any material found emerging through the surface of the track and remove it as well as backfilling any significant damage to the track.
To achieve a lasting, high-quality repair to the surface, we have been advised that the issues with the foundation would have to be addressed first which would require significant resources to achieve.
