Hedgehogs Get New Home at Maiden Erlegh Nature Reserve

Hedgehogs will have somewhere nice and warm to go this winter at Maiden Erlegh Nature Reserve.

Earley Town Council Park Rangers Ashley Prior and Tanika Small took possession of a handmade hedgehog house, kindly built by Denny, a volunteer from the Earley Repair Café.

The Park Rangers said they were looking forward to placing the hedgehog house somewhere suitable at the Reserve and will be monitoring its use. Denny said he had enjoyed making the hedgehog house and “was only too pleased to help”.

The hedgehog population has dramatically declined in the countryside over recent years so Earley Town Council is hoping the new hedgehog house will help preserve the prickly friends at the nature reserve.

Residents can also help by making their own gardens havens for hedgehogs or making gardens as hedgehog friendly as possible.  Information on how to do this can be found at The British Hedgehog Preservation Society: – https://www.britishhedgehogs.org.uk/
