At a meeting of Earley Town Council’s Amenities and Leisure Committee held on Wednesday 20th January, Members received a report from the Earley Community Orchard Group on the planned orchard for Laurel Park. They were informed that the first tree, a donated Mulberry was planted in mid December and a number of trees had been reserved for planting in the near future.
As a result of the previous offers and internet publicity, donations and sponsorship has been arriving and there is now over £700.00 for trees and other items.
Planting has been set for 11am on Saturday 13th February at Laurel Park and it is expected to have a good turnout of sponsors and other interested parties. The Earley Town Mayor, Councillor Melanie De Jong has been invited to plant the first tree.
The Amenities and Leisure Committee have expressed their thanks to the Orchard Group, The Town Council Officers and Committee for making this venture possible.
