Earley Town Council owns and manages Mays Lane Cemetery. The older part of the burial ground was formerly owned by St Peters Church, but the land was transferred to the Town Council some years ago. The older section is retained in its previous state although the Town Council has effected various improvements including a tarmac road and the provision of entrance gates to try to reduce the possibility of any vandalism. It is pleasing to be able to report that since the gates were emplaced, to date, no further incidents have been recorded.

The newer section is managed as a lawn cemetery. There are rules which govern the type of headstone and height.  Ornaments are not permitted on the site after the area has been turfed, as the area as said is a lawn cemetery.  This is nearly full, but the Extension has been consecrated and is now available for burials. A small section has been left unconsecrated. An additional area is being reserved for a Muslim Burial area.

Rows containing recent burials are due to be turfed as soon as weather permits, but usually at the end of April of each year

Rules and regulations governing  the cemetery are available from the Town Council Offices. Click here to view current prices
