Presence of Algae at Maiden Erlegh Nature Reserve

Please note: With immediate effect, all fishing is prohibited at Maiden Erlegh Lake due to the presence of algae in the Lake and part of the stream.

The algae is caused by atmospheric conditions and can be harmful to pets if they swim or paddle in the water, so please ensure that all animals are kept clear.

Please do not paddle or allow children to paddle

For more information please telephone our Amenities and Leisure Manager, Terry Gough, who has been liaising with the environment agency, on either the Council Offices, 01189868995 or his mobile 07764831377

  1. Hello
I am sure a general update posted in this section would be welcomed by permit holders, rather than the vague replies the council has posted so far.
Is the lake being tested by the EA on a weekly basis as stated in a previous post?
Has the source of the nutrients (Normally a nitrate) been identified in order to try and prevent this in the future?
What is the councils policy regarding part or full refunds to permit holders?

    Richard

    1. The Lake is still being tested weekly, and needs 2 clear readings before the Environment Agency will allow us to open. There has been no news to post to date. If Permit holders are looking for refunds then please apply to the Town Clerk in writing, or by email to [email protected]. As soon as there is new information an announcement will be posted.

  2. Hi,

As the Lake has been closed to fishing for over two months now, will you be offering refunds on permits ?

    Martin

    1. If you would like to put a request in writing with your full details including fishing permit number to the Town Clerk he will be able to deal with your enquiry. Alternatively you can send an email to [email protected]
